Committees:

·      Charity –  If you have any novelty fabric you are willing to part with please cut it into 6 inch squares and donate it to the charity committee, they will be making kits for members to use for charity projects.

·      Program –

o   Danielle and Inge L are organizing an Easter egg project to be made at the March meeting, they request everyone bring in small scraps of Easter color fabrics. There will be more details at the February meeting. 

o   A “Staycation Seminar” is planned for Saturday February 21^st, free of charge for all members. Donna Robertson of FabricCafe.blogspot.com* will do a presentation on three yard quilts. Please bring a finger food and your own beverage, and enjoy some friendship and learn a thing or two from Donna! The presentation is at Noon at the West Cape May Borough Hall where our meetings were held previously. *This is not a “workshop” there won’t be any sewing at this event, just a nice afternoon with friends to talk about quilting and gather some inspiration.

o   The 2015 Magazine Challenge will be announced at the February meeting. Please bring a magazine of any kind that can be destroyed to the meeting. Helen and Denise will explain how the magazine will be used in a project due in September.

·      Ways & Means – Do you have fabrics you are tired of and don’t like anymore? Please consider donating them to the guild in ½ yard pieces or 2 FQ bundles. They will be organizing a sale in the future to benefit the guild. They will be collected at the meetings.

·      Retreat – Sign up is open for the Quilt Retreat in Lancaster, PA at the Continental Inn on Oct 22^nd-Oct 25^th, hosted by Camaco and the Obat’s again. Please see Doreen to get your name on the list, a $75.00 down payment will be due in May, there’s no money needed now to put your name on the list! The retreat project is Debbie Maddy’s Labrynth, the pattern is included in the retreat fee so don’t purchase one. When you sign up, you will receive more detailed info about what’s included in the price. A few additional meals are added this year. There is a page on the sidebar with 2015 retreat info and prices.

New Business:         Helen suggested we donate to the Millman Center for use of the beautiful facility we use with no charge. $300 for this year was suggested and Helen also proposed we also include $300 for last year too because we overlooked a donation. Floss S made a motion we donate $600 to the Lower Township Millman Center, Gail B and Shirley H second the motion, and the motion was unanimously passed.

Meeting notes:          We enjoyed a snowman themed meeting with a demo on “Snowvester the Snowman” wall hanging by Geri P and lots of snowpeople themed show n tell. Dues for 2015 was collected.

Lancaster Quilt Show Bus Trip with South Shore Stitchers

South Shore Stitchers would like to invite CAMACO quilters and their guest  to join us on a bus trip to the AQS quilt show in Lancaster. 

Saturday March 14, 2015

 The cost is $36.00 for the bus trip, driver tip and admission to the show.  

This year we will be stopping at the Continental Inn for their quilt show, admission is free. then we will go to the convention center for the AQS show. 

 Dinner will be on your own.

December 2014 Minutes

Thank you:     CASA put a nice article in the Atlantic City Press about our donations for them.

Committees:

·      Charity           Margareta reminded everyone that there are premade pillowcases for the dog beds, they will be available at the meetings. The DAV used the pillow cases for their Christmas wrap again this year the kids said it was their favorite part of their presents! Great job Camaco ladies!

·      Program         Gail and her committee have planned a snowman themed program for January’s meeting. Geri P will demo her snowman wall hanging. If you have a snowman quilt you’d like to share bring it to the meeting. The committee is also planning a few speakers and workshops for 2015. There is a workshop planned for February 21^st at the West Cape May Borough Hall, there will be more info on that at the next meeting.

·      Sunshine        Helen reported that Lois C could use some sunshine after an accident and has decided to not keep her membership with Camaco. Diane D is still recovering from back surgery. Flossie S could also use some sunshine due to an infection she’s fighting.

·      Ways & Means           A raffle was held for 2 $25.00 gift certificates, Geri P and Joey G were the lucky winners.

·      Refreshments            Bernie advised she will be in touch with the people responsible for refreshments for the January meeting.

·      Retreat           Doreen advised she was mailing in the down payment to Continental for the retreat in October

New Business:           Helen advised the liability insurance for Camaco is due and will be renewed in January. Also the rental agreement for the Millman Center is due to be renewed for 2015, she will be handling it. Membership dues are due in January they are $30 and are due by the end of January. In February membership will be opened for new members if we have not met our 60 member limit.

Meeting notes:           Doreen demonstrated a quick table runner, Danielle shared a quick Christmas ornament and Denise shared a pre cut honeycomb coaster for wine glasses. All are great gift ideas for the holidays. We exchanged pot holders, had our cookie exchange and had a nice bag of cookies to take home.

Next Meeting notes:  Bring any snowman projects you would like to show and share with the guild. $30 membership dues.

Committees:

  

·      Charity – Margareta thanked all the members of Camaco who have made charity projects to be donated throughout the year. There were 56 quilts donated to CASA this year.

·      Program – Gail reminded us that the December meeting is our Christmas Holiday party, our pollyanna this year is a handmade potholder, wrap it, put a card in it so the recipient knows who made it, put it in a paper bag and bring to the meeting to be swapped!

·      Sunshine – Flossy reported she sent out 3 cards to members. Joey reported that Grace R could use some sunshine, due to health issues she may not be able to attend our meetings. Diane D also had back surgery in October.

·      Ways & Means – A fat quarter raffle was held. There will be a basket of goodies raffled at the December meeting so bring your $$$!

·      Refreshments – Bernie reported the regular refreshment schedule will resume in January and she will notify who’s next by email or a phone call.  December’s meeting we will be holding a cookie swap, bring in a dozen cookies to sample at the meeting and a dozen cookies to be shared with the guild, we’ll all get a bag to put a few cookies in to take home. Print your recipe out to share with the guild and set next to your cookies for other’s to take.  

·      Retreat – Doreen advised us the quilt retreat at the Continental Inn in Lancaster, PA last month was very successful. She reported if the guild is in agreement there will be another one next year Oct 22-25^th, 2015, Fri, Sat and Sun at the Continental Inn again, there will be room for 48 quilters. The guild was in agreement. Doreen asked for the guild to allow her to use guild funds for the down payment, to be reimbursed when the payments are received from quilt retreat participants. A motion was made by Gail B to use the guilds funds for the down payment until we have receipts from the guilt retreat registration, it was seconded by Joey G.

Old Business: Helen reminded everyone at the last meeting a motion was made and seconded for the existing board members to remain for 2015. Although the committees are in need of help and new members, she suggested joining a committee, the more people the less work for all involved and it’s a great way to get to know other guild members. We have a great group of quilters who share their skills and knowledge to better our guild, join a committee you’ll be surprised at what you learn…about our members and quilting!!

The meeting commenced with an advocate for CASA speaking about how our quilts are making a difference in the young recipients lives. He expressed the love the children have for their very own quilt. CASA conveyed their gratitude for our generosity. We showcased all the quilts we worked on all year and were donated to CASA before handing them over. We also enjoyed a covered dish Thanksgiving celebration. We have so many great cooks and recipes in our guild, it was a delicious dinner with good fellowship.

Next meetings notes:                        December’s Christmas Holiday celebration, bring $$$ for basket raffle, potholder in a brown bag to swap, and two dozen cookies to sample and share, and a few copies of the recipe.

Sweet Potato Casserole Recipe

Sweet Potato Casserole

from Joey Goodman 

3 cups cooked, mashed sweet potatoes

1 cup sugar

2 eggs

½ cup milk

½ stick butter

½ tsp salt

Blend; pour into buttered casserole 

Topping:

½  stick margarine

1 cup brown sugar

½ cup self rising flour

1 cup chopped pecans

(1 cup coconut, optional)

Sprinkle on top

Cook 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until heated through

Committees:

·      Charity – Sonja reminded everyone that at November’s meeting all our charity quilts will be presented to the organizations that benefit. Please bring any charity quilt you haven’t turned in. We will have a parade of quilts before they are sent off to their new homes!

·      Program         Gail reminded everyone our exchange for the holiday party in December is a pot holder, there are no rules, please make a potholder, wrap it, put a card inside with your name on it and put it in a brown paper bag and bring to the December meeting to exchange for another pot holder!

·      Ways & Means           Joey asked everyone to bring a holiday themed Fat Quarter for a FQ exchange at the November meeting.

·      Refreshments                        Bernie advised for our December meeting we will be having a cookie exchange. Bring a dozen cookies for sampling at the meeting and a dozen cookies for exchanging. This way we can sample AND gather a few different cookies to take home. Please write your recipe out so we can all have the recipe for our favorite cookies shared. Since our next two meetings involve everyone bringing food, our refreshment list will commence again in January and she’ll be in touch with whoever’s turn it is at that time.

Old Business:

The guild election and changing the by laws was discussed again, it was brought up by Helen that maybe the by-laws should be changed to read that the term for elected board members be two years, there was a discussion about changing the by laws. Doreen explained how changing the by laws is handled. It was decided that changing the by laws wasn’t necessary and Donna F made a motion that the serving board members service term be extended and they all serve for the year 2015. The motion was seconded by Inge and carried by the attending members.

Doreen went over some details for the upcoming quilt retreat.

New Business:           The November meeting will begin at 6:00pm, it is our annual Thanksgiving covered dish dinner. Please bring a dish to share. There was a list circulated at the meeting to sign up to share something and it was agreed that the guild will provide the paper products needed.

Next meetings notes:                        Bring your charity quilts, a covered dish to share and a holiday themed fat quarter for an exchange at 6:00pm!!

The meeting program was Self Portraits. Gail talked about self portrait quilts and how they can be interpreted, she had a few examples of different small quilt self portraits. A few members made self portraits to share too. It was quite a few different techniques explored and explained. Show N tell was phenomenal and inspiring as usual.
