Committees:

·      Charity – Sonja reminded everyone that at November’s meeting all our charity quilts will be presented to the organizations that benefit. Please bring any charity quilt you haven’t turned in. We will have a parade of quilts before they are sent off to their new homes!

·      Program         Gail reminded everyone our exchange for the holiday party in December is a pot holder, there are no rules, please make a potholder, wrap it, put a card inside with your name on it and put it in a brown paper bag and bring to the December meeting to exchange for another pot holder!

·      Ways & Means           Joey asked everyone to bring a holiday themed Fat Quarter for a FQ exchange at the November meeting.

·      Refreshments                        Bernie advised for our December meeting we will be having a cookie exchange. Bring a dozen cookies for sampling at the meeting and a dozen cookies for exchanging. This way we can sample AND gather a few different cookies to take home. Please write your recipe out so we can all have the recipe for our favorite cookies shared. Since our next two meetings involve everyone bringing food, our refreshment list will commence again in January and she’ll be in touch with whoever’s turn it is at that time.

Old Business:

The guild election and changing the by laws was discussed again, it was brought up by Helen that maybe the by-laws should be changed to read that the term for elected board members be two years, there was a discussion about changing the by laws. Doreen explained how changing the by laws is handled. It was decided that changing the by laws wasn’t necessary and Donna F made a motion that the serving board members service term be extended and they all serve for the year 2015. The motion was seconded by Inge and carried by the attending members.

Doreen went over some details for the upcoming quilt retreat.

New Business:           The November meeting will begin at 6:00pm, it is our annual Thanksgiving covered dish dinner. Please bring a dish to share. There was a list circulated at the meeting to sign up to share something and it was agreed that the guild will provide the paper products needed.

Next meetings notes:                        Bring your charity quilts, a covered dish to share and a holiday themed fat quarter for an exchange at 6:00pm!!

The meeting program was Self Portraits. Gail talked about self portrait quilts and how they can be interpreted, she had a few examples of different small quilt self portraits. A few members made self portraits to share too. It was quite a few different techniques explored and explained. Show N tell was phenomenal and inspiring as usual.

September Meeting Minutes 2014

New Business:           Elections are coming up in November, anyone interested in running may contact a board member, so a nominating committee can be formed. The current board is willing to serve for a second year if the guild is in agreement.

                                    Also, the possibility of changing the term of service for the governing board to two years from one year was brought up, this will require changing the bi-laws and will have to be voted on by the guild.

                                    The paper products for the guild will be purchased by the guild, in previous years the paper products were donated by Shirley H. and other guild members for special events.

Old Business:             No old business was discussed.

Committees:

·      Charity           Margareta P. advised there’s a charity sew day at the Millman Center September 23 at 1:00pm. There are dog bed covers made of heavy material for everyone to use for their scraps, the dogs are ripping and tearing the thinner fabric covers and ruining the pillows, so if you’re making a bed for a dog, take one of the covers the guild has available at the meetings or use thick/heavy fabrics.

·      Program         Gail B. reviewed the meeting schedule for the remainder of the year, October’s meeting is all about self portrait quilts, November is our covered dish dinner and we’re presenting our charity quilts to the organizations who benefit, December is our holiday celebration, make 1 potholder for our potholder exchange and everyone bring a snack to share.

·      Ways & Means           Bring a fall themed fat quart for a drawing in October.  Helen E. won the nice gift basket that was raffled off at our meeting, it contained a gift certificate to Joanns and a few other gifts. Congrats Helen!

·      Refreshments            Bernie S. advised who is responsible for refreshments for the October meeting, everyone responsible was notified at the meeting or by an email. Bernie will be handling the lists for our covered dish dinner in November.

·      Retreat           Doreen D.  collected the balance of the retreat fee and distributed more info on the fun ahead!!

Gail B. presented a cute pumpkin project from All People Quilt, Silly Pumpkin Pincushions http://www.allpeoplequilt.com/holiday-quilts/halloween/silly-pumpkin-pincushions . The UFO’s and show & tell were beautiful and inspiring as usual!

Next meetings notes:            Bring a fall color fat quarter for a fat quarter raffle or buy a ticket for the drawing at the meeting.

Charity Sew Days are Fun Days Come Join in on the Fun!!

With batting supplied by CAMACO together with various fabric donations, we almost have a quilt.  All we need now are talents, energy and a bit (not a lot) of time from our devoted quilters. 

The quilts can be sewn at the Millman Center or worked on at home. The aim is to let a child in the CASA, Christ Child or the VFW programs know that we truly care. 

The combination of cutting batting, sorting fabric, sewing, Swedish coffee cake, iced tea and lots of conversation made for a nice day. Enjoy the summer....We waited long enough...

We were so fortunate to have  Terry Kramzar spend the day teaching us some new techniques and a project to practice and use them. The workshop was held at Cold Spring Village. What a fun day of sewing and friendship.

June 2014 Meeting Minutes

Committees:

·      Name Badge  Joyce reported she collected $1 in name tag fines.

·      Charity           Next sew day at the Millman Center is Tuesday June 24^th at 1:00 pm, bring your sewing machine and sewing supplies.

·      Ways & Means           Joey advised at the September meeting there will be a basket raffle.

·      Refreshments             Bernie will email the next members on the list in August for the refreshment assignments for September.

·      Retreat           Doreen reminded everyone the $75.00 deposit is due, it can be mailed to her over the summer if you didn’t register at the meeting, the balance is due at the September meeting. There will be a meet and greet on Thursday night at the retreat, with some fun activities planned.

Old business: No old business was discussed.

New Business: No new business was discussed.

Rosalie G from the Christ Child Society spoke to us about the great work they do in the county. If you would like to knit or crochet a sweater, hat, booties or blanket for one of their layettes they will supply yarn call Rosalie G at (see your minutes emailed to you). Christ Child Society phone number is 609-602-7682. They will accept handmade quilts for children 2-3 years old enrolled in Head Start. Sonia is collecting items for Christ Child Society at the meetings.

Our rectangle challenge projects were all beautiful and creative. First prize was won by Gerri P, second was Eileen I. and third was won by Elena H. Congratulations ladies! Everyone’s work was worthy of a prize. The fat quarter bundle from Timeless Treasures was won by Sandy W, lucky Sandy!

Ways and Means did a great job with the yard sale. There were a lot of items for sale and there were many happy customers getting bargains!

Announcement: South Shore Stitchers is holding a Yard Sale July 14^th Upper Township Community Center
1790 Route 50, Tuckahoe . Shopping starts at 5:00pm.

Next meetings notes: Bring a project to work on for July and August, no formal meeting will be held.

Meeting started:        May 14^th, 2014 7:03pm at Green Creek Fire Hall.**

Guests:            Carol Moore from Cape May and Terry Kramzar, our lecturer for the evening.

Committees:

·      Charity – Margareta reported that the dog beds need to be made of heavy material or doubled thinner material because the dogs are ripping them open and making a mess! The sew day in May was spent using our heavier fabrics into sturdier dog bed covers. The bags will be available at the meetings for everyone to use for their scraps. Next sew day is scheduled for June 24^th at 1:00pm at the Millman Center.

·      Program – Gail reminded everyone that the rectangle challenge is due in June, please bring in in a brown bag, have your named on the back and your quilt title pinned to the front. There are some great prizes to win!

·      Ways & Means – Joey reminded us that they will be holding a yard sale of gently used books and quilting supplies at the June meeting, so bring some cash!!

·      Refreshments - Bernie will email everyone for June’s meeting refreshment assignments, her list was at the Millman Center and not available at the meeting.

·      Retreat - $75.00 deposit is due for retreat at June meeting, balance is due at Sept meeting. Doreen and Kathy are planning a reception Thursday night for early arrivals to retreat.

Our meeting was held at the Green Creek Fire Hall due to an accident at the Millman Center early Weds morning thanks to the quick work of our members, especially Helen who was able to secure the fire hall for us. Thank you Green Creek Fire Hall for accommodating us once again on short notice!

We had a very interesting lecture on how http://terrykramzar.com gets her inspiration from adventures in nature. She shared a slide show of her artist in residency positions at the Grand Canyon National Park and Everglades National Park, and followed it up with a beautiful trunk show highlighting the quilts that were inspired by her life experiences. On Thursday she taught a workshop using her quilt as you go technique. We are so fortunate to have had such a great lecture and workshop available to us, thank you Terry for some great inspiration! Gail, Clare and the rest of the program committee thank you for organizing such a nice meeting and workshop!

There was no show n tell due to a lack of time after our presentation.

**The Millman Center contacted us to let us know the Millman is structurally sound and available for use. Our meetings will continue to be held at the Millman as usual.
