March 2016 Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order by our President, Doreen D at 7pm, at the Millman Center. There were two guests, Jacklyn B with Connie A and Irene K with Shirley H. Irene was a former member.  I thanked Denise for “cleaning up” my minutes for the Blog and pledged to conquer the computer in order to get the minutes out each month.

Karen M, our Treasurer, reported a balance of $3134.27.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

CHARITY: There were one dog bed and several totes completed and additional dog beds were available to fill.

PHOTOGRAPHY: Denise took pictures at the meeting for Danielle, who was not present.

PROGRAM: Diane D announced that there would be instructions for the Challenge on the Blog. They will be judged at the June meeting and displayed at the Cold Spring Show, June 25th and 26th.

Diane also announced that there would be a Jelly Roll Race, 9am-4pm, May 21st at the Green Creek Fire Hall. You will need 40-42 strips of 2” material. We will make the “string” in the AM and “race” after we break for lunch. There will be prizes awarded for 1st and 2nd place. Diane also encouraged anyone interested in quilting these quilts for Charity (especially those with long arms) to sign up on a sheet she made available.

SUNSHINE: Flossie did not send out any cards this month, but reminded us that the Lancaster Quilt Show bus trip, with South Shore Stitchers, is March 19th. Space available, see Flossie.

WAYS & MEANS: A drawing was held for 17 fat quarters. Inge K was the lucky winner.

OLD BUSINESS: Doreen reminded us that Judy H has the signup sheet for our Retreat to Lancaster, October 20th-23rd. A deposit of $75 is due at the May meeting. She also reminded us that the Garden Patch Quilt Show at Wheaton Village is March 17th-20th.

NEW BUSINESS: The OBATS Quilt Guild (in particular, Donna) donated an extra AccuQuilt to CAMACO, along with multiple dies. Bernie will be the “keeper” and anyone can use it by signing it out with her. The dies available will be listed in the Blog. While out shopping, if you see a die we do not have, for a reasonable price, buy it and the Guild will reimburse you. It was suggested that we have a demonstration on its use, which will be done next month.

Bernie also announced that there will be a quilt show at York College, May 20th-21st. If anyone is interested in entering or attending, a printout was available with details.

Clare announced that this years the Cold Spring Quilt Show will have a Junior Category for those 15 years old or younger, to encourage young quilters. Registration is $10 and includes admission to Cold Spring Village, the Show and Sunday Brunch.

Flossie announced that the Senior Center in Court House wants to donate remnants to our dog beds. She will connect them to Anne L on Charity.  A program was presented by our first “table group” on binding widths, a quick way to make binding with a fat quarter, binding with a flange, bias strips, how to make a diagonal seam when ending binding and the use of glue.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:45pm, followed by a short Show& Tell.

The next meeting is April 13th at 7pm at the Millman Center in the Villas.

Respectfully Submitted, Beverly Tyler, Secretary
