April Runner of Month

For April's runner we are featuring English Paper Piecing flowers.

It's missing an EPP Flower! Please don't forget to add your 3rd flower! Mine wasn't made yet!

Supplies and Materials

Background Fabric cut 36 1/2 X 12 1/2

Green fabric for leaves and grass 4X12

Green for stems  2 1” X WOF  

Blue, orange fabric scraps for bird

44 2 1/2 squares

backing fabric 43X22

batting 43X22

binding fabric

fusible web 12X36 approx

5 inch pinwheel block trimmed to 3" and prepped for appliqué*

*you could use a yoyo in place of pinwheel block if you prefer.

Prepare green and blue fabrics with fusible web on wrong side. Cut out stems, grass, leaves and bird pieces. Assemble the bird on a non stick sheet so you can tack him together with the iron and move him easily as one whole piece to the background fabric for appliqué. 

Position your stems, leaves, grass and birds and adhere to the background as you like. I made a one sided runner, you can do as many stems, leaves birds as you like, press in place. If you prefer to draw in the bird legs and eye, use a fabric permanent marker. (keep leaves, stems and size of your flowers in mind when adhering to the background, you will add a binding that will take up 1/4 inch from sides, and don’t want overlap of other pieces).

Remove paper from EPP flowers, position your flowers on the stems and stitch around the edges to adhere.

Stitch details onto your runner as you prefer to fasten the leaves and flowers to the background. I left some detail stitching until I was quilting to help hold it all together.

Sew the 2 1/2 squares into two 38” strips and one 16” strip. Sew the two long strips together and sew onto one long side of the background piece with flowers. Sew 16” strip on the short end.

Finish your runner as you would a quilt and enjoy!

UFO Guild Challenge 2017

2017 The Scrappy Year at Camaco Quilt Guild

We're considering unfinished projects scraps this year, okay???

This year's challenge is to get you quilting and finishing up those previously started sewing projects, loose ends, ufo's, works in progress(WIP) or whatever YOU call those projects laying around your house!

Here are some guide lines to help keep it fair and fun. 

Definition of a UFO:  a sewing project you have

1. purchased a pattern AND selected fabric for prior to January 2017, BUT haven't started yet.
2. a project YOU started previously and haven't finished yet, no matter how close to completion it is, as long as it isn't finished and able to be utilized as it is currently.

Definition of completed UFO: Completely done, quilted, binding on, FINISHED, ready to use. If not a quilt project it must be entirely  ready to be utilized for it's intended use, ex: purse, a garment, home decor, etc.

Definition of sewing project: something made with needle, thread and fabric.

Time frame for finished projects to be counted: January 2017 thru January 10, 2018.

There will be a log book at every meeting for you to register and log your finished projects. MAKE SURE YOU USE IT, you will not get credit if you forget!!

All prizes will be awarded for the work completed within the specified time line. If you've already completed a UFO this year, please log it!!!

The MOST UFO's completed by a member. 

The most square inches quilted (length X width divided by .015) This ones just for quilts. (We ARE a quilt guild after all!!)

The oldest UFO completed, the one started the farthest date from 2017, must be started and completed by the member. 

**Please keep projects to personal projects, no work done on customers or friends quilts!**  One prize per person.

Let's share our progress at meetings and on Facebook. Let's cheer each other on, or if you like some friendly competition...BRAG!!! Let's have some laughs and fun with our hobby and friends!!

The program committee will keep track of the projects completed and post some updates throughout the year to keep it interesting! I sure hope everyone joins in and gets some old projects done while having a bit of fun and winning a prize!!

2016 Guild Challenge

Masterpiece Challenge

This challenge is a celebration of the great artists and the masterpieces they have created that we all honor and revere today in our museums and art galleries, along with honoring our own love of quilting and the masterpieces we create with our hands.

All those wishing to participate must form into groups of 4.

You will choose a masterpiece painting to everyone’s liking.

Photo copy the image 5 times.  Each person in the group should receive a copy and the 5^th copy which needs to be approximately 14”x20” should be cut into 4 equal size pieces.  You can do this any way you like. Give one of the 4 equal pieces to each member of the group.

Duplicate your section as accurately as possible using the same colors and shapes etc.  You must do this four times so that each member of the group will receive a piece.  

When all pieces are done you will keep one and give the other three to the other members of your group.  

Sew the 4 sections you received from the other members together and  quilt, use borders to "frame", bind and add your quilt label to finish your masterpiece and make it your own.

 Step back and admire your masterpiece!

There will be an unveiling at the June meeting and a first, second, and third prize ribbon awarded by a vote from the membership.  

We will put them on display at the Cold Spring Fiber Festival at the end of the month.

February 2015 Meeting Minutes

February 2015 Minutes

Committees:

·      Charity           Regarding the novelty fabrics that charity asked for, they are requesting that not all fabrics be cut up into 6 inch square so it can be used for sashing or backing. March 24^th 1-4pm at the Millman Center, there will be a charity sew day to organize the projects and donated fabric for this year. 

      We will be making quilts for children of CASA, pillowcases for the DAV and dog pillows for the animal shelters in the area. We will not be collecting placemats at this time.

·      Program         Inge advised for our March meeting we will be making a patchwork Easter egg and we will need to bring Easter colored fabrics small scrap size, scissors, and one of the following, tiny crochet hook, stiletto, stylus or small knitting needle. The Styrofoam eggs will be supplied by the guild.

Bev advised  at our meeting April 8th Teresa Fusco will be our guest speaker and talk about "A Quilter's Journey-50 and Older-Better Than Ever".

Thursday April 9 – We will be hosting a workshop on " Raw Edge Appliqué" with Teresa Fusco, the cost is around $30 if we get 15 sign ups.  To be held at the Historic Cold Spring Village Welcome Center.  For more information on Teresa's style and free form approach go to TeresasQuiltStudio.com.  

·      Sunshine        Flossie had knee surgery.

·      Refreshments                        Bernie advised the guild will be supplying the beverages for meetings so when it’s your turn to supply refreshment please bring a snack of some type to share.   

    

     Ways & Means     Over the next several months you can bring in any yardage or fat quarters you would like to donate to our Fabric Sale that we are planning for the October meeting.

 2015 Magazine Page Color Challenge

Please join us for a fun challenge project! Stretch your skills and imagination by playing along! Use the guidelines below to join in the fun. There will be awards and prizes. 

1   Tear a random page out of any old magazine.

2   Write your name on the page.

3   Use the colors on that page to make a quilted project not more than 24X24 inches.

4  Use all the colors, 2 or 3 colors, but only colors on that page.

5  Make a pot holder, table runner, a tote bag, a wall hanging or anything you'd like.

6   Traditional or modern. Use your favorite technique or learn a new one like appliqué, embroidery, beading or anything else you can dream up.

7   Please label your quilt on the back with a title, year and your name.

The challenge is due at the September meeting so get busy!! All this info is on the blog in the page section 2015 Magazine Challenge.

Old business:             Helen reminded everyone that South Shore Stitchers is running a bus trip to the Lancaster Quilt Show Saturday March 14^th. The info is available on the blog and was sent out in an email in February.

Meeting notes:           We enjoyed demos on strip quilting and awesome show n tell.

Let's Have Some Fun with a Rectangle Challenge!

Our very clever Program Committee is at it again with another fun idea to get our brains thinking, our hands and sewing machines busy! A challenge of rectangles and squares. Grab your stash and put something fun together! 

We will kick off the challenge with some information and demos using rectangles and squares at our meeting tonight. You won't want to miss the fun ideas and projects our talented guild will present.

There will be prizes and ribbons for the Challenge, gift certificates to HomeMade - $25 for first prize,  $15 for second, and $10 for third. 

CAMACO Rectangle Challenge

·     Project should be 80% rectangles and squares.

·     Style can be traditional or modern.

·     Must be completed by the June 12^th CAMACO meeting.

·     Project should be small – including but not limited to coasters, pin cushions, pillow covers, place mats, table runners, wall hangings, small quilts. 

·     Two month completion window should be considered when deciding your interpretation of small, but suggest no larger than crib size.

·     Name the project.
