November 2015 Meeting Minutes

Meeting started: November 11, 6:00pm

Committees:

• Charity  Margareta and Pam reported we donated 77 quilts to CASA  and met our goal of 60 pillowcases for DAV this year, there were also some assorted items donated to the Christ Child Society.  Great job everyone who donated. The guild conducted a parade of quilts donated to CASA for 2015.  

• Photography   Anna brought pictures of show n tell for the last few meetings.

• Program      Gail and Bev reminded everyone about our Christmas gift exchange for the December meeting. Please bring either a $6 sewing gadget or two coordinating fat quarters to swap. You can wrap the gift, put a christmas greeting with it if you like, but it MUST be inside a brown paper bag for swapping. Bev is organizing how we will swap them!

• Sunshine   Janet B could use some sunshine.

• Ways & Means  A gift basket raffle was conducted.

• Refreshments     Bernie reminded us that we will have a cookie exchange for our December meeting. Please bring a dozen cookies to taste/share at the meeting and another dozen for sharing with guild members to take home. If you would like to share your recipe please bring it to place near your cookies. The guild will have ziplock bags for filling and taking home a selection of cookies.

New Business:     The National Quilt Association Camaco has belonged to for the past few years is dissolving at the end of 2015. Camaco became a member of a quilting association so we could conduct quilt raffles as fundraisers, due to the fact that Camaco has found other fundraisers that better fit our guild at the present time we do not see a valid reason to seek another quilt association to join.

The 2014-2015 executive board would like to congratulate and welcome the 2016 Executive board of Camaco that were voted into office at our meeting. Doreen DPresident, Bernie S Vice President, Bev TSecretary, Karen M Treasurer.  We wish you great success in your new positions. We offer our help, advice or any guidance you may need during the transition period and beyond. Thank you for volunteering your time to our guild.

We also enjoyed a delicious thanksgiving potluck dinner and fellowship with our guild members.

Turkey Slider Recipe....Yum!!!

The recipe Helen made for our Thanksgiving potluck dinner.

This recipe is for ham but switch for turkey.

I put lingonberry on guild night---cranberry works. 

Add stuffing-that would be great!

Doubling the recipe is perfect for fitting into a large casserole dish. 

Perfect for football gatherings, buffets and potlucks.

Baked Ham and Cheese Party Sandwiches

"These small, delicious sandwiches are perfect for any party. They are so good that even the pickiest of eaters will eat these."

Ingredients

• 3/4 cup melted butter
• 1 1/2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
• 1 1/2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
• 1 1/2 tablespoons poppy seeds

 

• 1 tablespoon dried minced onion
• 24 mini sandwich rolls
• 1 pound thinly sliced cooked deli ham
• 1 pound thinly sliced Swiss cheese

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
2. In a bowl, mix together butter, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, poppy seeds, and dried onion. Separate the tops from bottoms of the rolls, and place the bottom pieces into the prepared baking dish. Layer about half the ham onto the rolls. Arrange the Swiss cheese over the ham, and top with remaining ham slices in a layer. Place the tops of the rolls onto the sandwiches. Pour the mustard mixture evenly over the rolls.
3. Bake in the preheated oven until the rolls are lightly browned and the cheese has melted, about 20 minutes. Slice into individual rolls through the ham and cheese layers to serve.

October 2015 Meeting Minutes

October 2015 Minutes

Meeting started: 7:00pm October 14, 2015

Committees:

• Charity          Margareta reminded us that the parade of quilts donated to charity is next month. Pam also said that the last chance to donate pillow cases is November, they will be turned over for the wrapping of presents for the DAV Christmas party soon.

• Program       Gail is looking ahead to December’s meeting it is our Christmas Party, please bring a $6.00 sewing gadget or two matching fat quarters to swap. 

• Sunshine       Janet Blackmore has received visits from a few members and reported to be doing better.

• Ways & Means      Joey thanked Pam and other members for organizing the yard sale of donated items from guild members.  The yard sale was a great success! It was so organized and orderly. Great job to all who lent a helping hand.

• Refreshments      Bernie advised there is a sign up sheet for next months Thanksgiving Potluck dinner. As of today Oct 31st, we are still in need of 2 entree dishes, 2 vegetable side dishes and 2 people for clean up duty.    The meeting will start at 6:00pm.    Bernie also reminded us we will do the cookie swap again for our December meeting, please bring a dozen cookies to taste that night and a dozen cookies for members to have a little assortment of cookies to bring home. Please type up your recipe to share.

There was a question about the Millman Center being open on our regular meeting night because it’s Veteran’s Day, Helen checked with the center and they will be open on November 11th for our meeting. 

November’s meeting will start at 6:00 pm, remind your friends without internet!!

We will be voting for the guild’s 2016 governing board, if you would like to nominate someone or yourself you can email Doreen with that information.

Don’t forget a dish to share, your charity quilt or pillow cases.

2015 Quilt Retreat Was So Much Fun!

Now that everyone who made the Labrynth Quilt at the retreat is an expert on hst's here's some inspiration for making more creative quilts!

Chelsey and Denise shared information on using hst's at the retreat, how to make them with different methods including multiples at one time. They also shared how many different layouts there are once you get spinning the square and changing up the colors. Recipes from This Month's Meeting

Meringues

1/4 to 1/2 lb. dried fruit of your choice. Remember dried fruit.

1/2 to 3/4 cup diced nuts

4 egg whites

1 1/2 cups sugar

Beat egg whites to very stiff. Add sugar keep beating to keep stiff.

Add fruit and nuts

Drop on parchment paper covered cookie sheets. 

Bake in slow oven and on lower racks at 300F about 25 to 30 minutes

Pam's dip recipe:

Pumpkin Cheesecake Dip

8 oz. cream cheese(softened)
8 oz. cool whip (thawed)
1 1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 cup pumpkin purée
1 Tbsp pumpkin pie spice
1 tsp vanilla
1/8 tsp ground cinnamon

Put cream cheese and cool whip into bowl and mix  on med. speed till smooth (about 2 min)
Keeping on med. speed, mix in pumpkin purée, powdered sugar, pumpkin pie spice and vanilla until combined.
Place into bowl of choice. Sprinkle with cinnamon and chopped pecans if desired. Refrigerate at least 30 minutes.

Denise B. for making the clever ribbons for the Magazine Challenge. 

Joyce E. for picking up the quilt display racks that Stone Harbor Wet Lands donated to CAMACO.

CASA will be hosting a Community Awareness event on October 22^nd at the Wildwood Country Club. Anyone interested in attending contact Helen E. by 10/5/15 for details.

With nominations and elections coming up, committee members gave a quick explanation of their position duties while in office. Doreen D. also mentioned how the election process will be run.

There is still room if you and a guest to join in on the retreat! Contact Doreen D.

For Octobers Meeting:

     *Nominations ballots will be handed out. Please consider nominating yourself or someone else in the group—it is an easy way to give back without investing allot of time, for something we all receive so much from! If nominated, you will be contacted to see if you are willing to run. Anyone can do any of these positions. 

     

*Inge L. will be demoing how to make a fleece stuffed Turkey Door Stop-Supplies needed are:

          -Binder Clips

          -Sharp fabric and paper scissors

          -Polyfil 

          -Tacky Glue

          -Pebbles to weight the bottom

          -Black felt pen

Fleece, button and felt will be provided

Reminder-South Shore Stitcher’s Quilt Show is Oct 16-18 at the Upper Community Center.
